During the annual spring and autumn Canton Fairs, electronica in Munich, CES, or specialist industry exhibitions, companies print large quantities of brochures, roll-up banners, and business cards. Yet we find that 80% of companies direct the QR codes at their booths straight to their website homepage, or to a temporary third-party H5 page that becomes a dead 404 link once the exhibition ends.

Content

Imagine an overseas buyer scanning the QR code on your display board with a phone in a noisy, crowded exhibition hall, only to land on a sprawling website homepage. They cannot find the brochure for the new product on display at your booth today, and there is no quick way to register their business card. They will probably close the page and soon forget who you are.

1. Keep one permanent URL (such as /events/2026-munich) and switch the page through three phases

Contact

An approach that converts well is to create a dedicated exhibition event page on your website, keep the QR code URL fixed, and switch the key above-the-fold modules in the admin panel according to the timeline:

Phase Visitors' primary intent when scanning or visiting Key above-the-fold content and CTA actions
Phase 1: pre-event promotion (1–4 weeks before opening) Learn about exhibition highlights in advance and book a time for an in-depth on-site meeting Prominently display the hall and booth numbers (such as Hall B2, Booth 315) + previews of 3 key new products to be exhibited + a “Book a one-to-one on-site meeting with an engineer / Get a free exhibition ticket” form
Phase 2: rapid conversion during the event (the 3–5 days of the exhibition) Get the digital brochure and exchange contact details within 30 seconds at the booth Minimal mobile mode: make the first above-the-fold button “Download all new-product PDFs for this exhibition in one click” + “Photograph and upload your business card in 3 seconds / Enter your email to receive a quotation” + a direct WhatsApp/WeChat contact code for the person in charge on site
Phase 3: lasting post-event value (retained long-term after dismantling the booth) Report to the procurement team back at the office, or catch up on new products if unable to attend Switch to “Exhibition highlights and new-product launch roundup”: display photos of the actual booth, presentation PPT downloads, detailed technical specifications for exhibited products, and a standard inquiry entry point to capture long-term organic search traffic

2. QR code links must include UTM parameters while keeping the short link clean

Before printing materials, route the long tracking URL through a short path on your website (such as jvds.cn/go/expo) with a 302 redirect to the event page containing utm_source=offline_booth. This keeps the printed QR code pattern sparse and easy to scan while accurately tracking how many people scanned the display board on site.
