When building their websites, many manufacturing and engineering companies spend heavily on photographers to take authentic photos at their production facilities, cleanrooms, and customers' construction sites. Yet when these photos go onto the page, they either have no captions at all or are casually labeled “A corner of the workshop,” “Production site,” or “Advanced equipment.”

Demo

For experienced overseas buyers and government or corporate procurement staff, “A corner of the workshop” without specific context is no different from an image downloaded from a free stock library. Adding a structured caption that stands up to verification beneath the image can be more persuasive than a thousand words of self-promotion.

1. The “three-element formula” for highly credible on-site photo captions

Photo

When JVDS helps businesses organize the text and image assets for their websites, we ask that the caption for each key original photo (and its corresponding HTML alt attribute) include, wherever possible, “specific location/facility + key equipment/object of the work + quantitative metrics/applicable standards”:

Common perfunctory wording (adds no credibility) Highly credible structured caption (location + subject + standard)
A corner of the factory workshop Suzhou Phase II manufacturing facility: Class 10,000 cleanroom assembly workshop equipped with a fully automated optical inspection (AOI) production line
Quality inspectors checking products Reliability laboratory: engineers conducting 72-hour salt spray corrosion and alternating high/low temperature tests on IP68 waterproof connectors
Group photo at a customer project site An automotive components center in Munich, Germany, in 2026: our technical team completed on-site integrated commissioning and handover of a dispatching system for 12 heavy-duty AGVs
Warehouse shipment photo Standing safety-stock area in a South China bonded warehouse: supports palletizing and dispatching standard-model orders to European ports within 48 hours

Scope

2. Layout details: make captions a “second headline” for scanning readers

According to Nielsen Norman Group (NN/g) eye-tracking research, website visitors are 300% more likely to read short captions beneath images than long body paragraphs. For UI layout, use medium-gray text at 13px–14px, left-aligned directly below the image (with a gap of 8px–12px), and bold the location or key equipment model. Before uploading, also be sure to check with the factory production and legal teams whether the images inadvertently show confidential customer drawings or staff badge labels that have not been redacted.
